JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Despite a 28-4 shot difference, and a 7-1 difference in shots on net, Jacksonville walked away from Wednesday night's game against South Carolina State with a 0-0 draw.
The scoreless outcome moves JU to a 1-2-2 record, last having won in the home opener against Miami.
The Dolphins buried shots all night on the Lady Bulldogs, but could not break the scoreless dam.
Saki Sanno led the 'Phins with six shots and two on target, leading the team in shots and tying with
Paula Herranz for the lead in shots on net.
Julia Delprat found herself around the net all night as well, launching five shots with one on target.
Claudia Perez Avila and
Sofía Aguayo each had four shots but no 'Phin could find nylon.
Off the bench, freshman
Logan Griffin had two shots herself in 45 minutes played. It was the fourth appearance of the year for the Jacksonville native and her most minutes played all season, as well as her first two collegiate shots.
For Sanno, it was her season-high in shots and third game with 90 minutes played. She and Delprat lead the team with 10 total shots. Sanno and
Madelyn Radtke are second on the team in shots on goal with three apiece.
Wednesday's game was a season-high in the shots category for the 'Phins, outpacing the 17 launched at Georgia Southern. It was the second most shots on goal for the team behind just the Georgia Southern game as well.
The result in the shots category was far more than the 11 the team registered last season against the Lady Bulldogs, but that game found a 6-0 result in favor of the green and gold. Wednesday's game was also the first draw against the Lady Bulldogs in six total matches dating back to 2021.
In the game's final 10 minutes alone, Jacksonville had 10 chances at the net but could not find pay dirt. To the defense's credit, Jacksonville allowed just four shots all night for South Carolina State and only one in the second half.
In net,
Taylor Gardner pitched a shutout over almost 61 minutes played. She was relieved for the first time by
Sofia Mosquera, who appeared in her first game as a 'Phin, making one save over almost 30 minutes played.
Nahia Morales López also saw game action for the first time on the season, logging 28 minutes in the midfield.
Next up for JU is a clash on the coast down in Miami against Florida International. The game will take place on Sunday, Sep. 13 on ESPN+. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
