In his role, Johnson is responsible for overseeing various programs such as: Study Hall, SAAC, STAAR, Champs/Life Skills as well as all other academic related issues. He will also continue to serve as a liaison between student-athletes, faculty, and staff in order to ensure that academic progress is realized.
As the student-athlete services coordinator, Johnson was instrumental in the creation and implementation of the STAAR Program, an academic recovery program which continues to flourish as a program for at-risk student-athletes. As the primary academic contact for many teams at JU, he has been successful in raising the overall student-athletes GPA each year while on staff.
Prior to JU, Johnson completed his senior internship with Gator Boosters, Inc. which is the fundraising arm for the athletic department at the University of Florida. One of his primary duties was to assist with the F Club, which is the letterman’s club for former Gator athletes. Included among these responsibilities was assisting with the F Club Endowment.
The Gainesville, Fla. native earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management at Florida while also obtaining a minor in business administration. He completed his master’s degree in business at JU during the summer of 2010.
Johnson and his wife, Erica, have a daughter, Elizabeth, and currently reside in Jacksonville.
