Andy Carter enters his second year at JU as the Director of Sports Medicine.

Carter will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Dolphins' sports medicine program as well as assisting with the institution's other 19 intercollegiate teams. He will also serve as the main athletic trainer for the men's basketball, track & field and cross country squads.

Before coming to JU, Carter was the assistant sports medicine director/athletic trainer at the Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute. While working in the clinic, he coordinated the physician’s sports medical coverage, surgical protocols and Dr. Carlos Tandron’s post-op clinic. Carter also treated and rehabilitated all surgical and non- surgical injuries.

Outside of the clinic, Carter was the head athletic trainer at the high school level where he was able to evaluate, treat and rehabilitate all athletic injuries. He also coordinated coverage for all athletic teams, supervised the student staff and maintained the inventory.

Prior to JOI, Carter served as the assistant athletic trainer at NC State (2007-10), Austin Peay University (2005-07) and Mercer (2003-05). He also had a brief stop at JU as the athletic trainer for volleyball in 2005 following his summer stint as the trainer for the Batavia Muckdogs in the Philadelphia Phillies minor League system.

Carter holds certifications from NATABOC, CSCS, First Aid & Safety and CPR/AED. He is also a Licensed Athletic Trainer by the State of Florida Department of Health and HIPPA qualified. Carter holds a membership to NATA.

Carter earned his bachelor’s degree in athletic training at Huron University in 2002, while securing his master’s in exercise science from University of Louisiana of Monroe in 2003.
