Jena Suffel begins her second year at JU as the assistant athletic trainer for women’s basketball and cheerleading.

Suffel came to JU following a two-year stint as a graduate assistant on the sports medicine staff at Valdosta State University. Suffel worked as the athletic trainer for the volleyball and tennis programs her first year, and assisted with the Blazers’ football team her second year.

During the summer of 2010, she was able to study abroad at the National Taiwan Sports University in Taiwan. Suffel learned traditional Chinese medicine therapy used to reduce inflammation, acupressure therapy/massage and the theory and use of cranial therapy techniques for the treatment of illnesses.

Prior to Valdosta State, Suffel was senior intern at Southern State College in Hillsboro, Ohio (Nov. 2008-Feb.2009) and an athletic training student at Wilmington College, her alma mater, in Wilmington, Ohio from 2005-09.

Suffel earned her bachelor’s degree in athletic training at Wilmington College in May of 2009, while securing her master’s in health and physical education from Valdosta State in May of 2011.
