Daphne Mitchell begins her first season as a assistant coach on the JU staff.

Mitchell comes to JU after spending the 2011-12 season on the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball staff. She along with fellow JU assistant Shellie Greeman led the Golden Eagles to the Ohio Valley Championship game and helped them earn a postseason berth for the Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI) during their one season.

Mitchell was a four-year letterwinner at Georgia Tech in the posts from 2004-08 before starting her coaching career. She saw action in 102 games, including starting five of her 13 career contests as a senior. Mitchell played in a career-best 33 games as a sophomore, averaging 2.4 points and 2.4 rebounds a contest. Off the court, she earned the ACC Top Six Service honor for her work in the community in the spring of 2006.

Following her Yellow Jacket career, Mitchell played professionally overseas for two seasons.

The East Point, Ga., native played for the Clube Desportivo Torres Novas team in Portugal. She also played for the Codigalco Carmelitas in Spain and averaged eight points and six rebounds. Mitchell's professional career also included a team in Finland, where she averaged 15 points and seven rebounds, and a team in Ecuador, where she averaged 11 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Mitchell received her bachelor’s degree in business management from Georgia Tech in 2008.
