Jerry Odom is a 22 Year Coaching Veteran and enters his fourth season running the Jacksonville defense. The Dolphins have led or been in top three in total defense in the Pioneer league three of the last four years.
Odom comes from a varied coaching background. He made his way to JU after one year at Suwannee High School in 2009 as the Head Coach. His team was 4-6 in his short tenure, doubling the win total from the year before. Before that he was the he was Associate Head Coach/Defense for the World Champion Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football league where the Soul tied the record for wins in a season with 17 and lead the league in defense.
He was also the Head Coach at Coffee High School in Douglas Georgia. His 24-12 record is the best three-year run in the school history. After going 4-6 in his first season the Trojans we able to put together back-to-back nine wins seasons for the first time. This success enabled Odom to be named the 2006 Coach of the Year in Region 1-5a (which is considered one of the top High School Conferences in the country).
Odom was Defensive Coordinator/Special Teams Coordinator at East Carolina University for two seasons. During his tenure ECU was tops in the conference in kickoff return, punt returns and kickoff coverage. While there he also recruited the likes of Chris Johnson who went on to become the 2009 NFL leading rusher.
Odom was the Linebacker coach and Special Team Coordinator at the University of Florida where he help the Gator to top ten national ranking in Total Defense each of his years in Gainesville. He has coached at various high schools in the Florida area such as New Smyrna Beach and Apopka in his earlier years of Coaching and was a Graduate assistant at TCU under Pat Sullivan.
As a player Odom played at the University of Florida. For the Gators he was a four-year letter winner at ILB, starting 4 games as a sophomore and every game both his junior and senior seasons on a defense that was among the nation’s top five in total defense in 1988, 1989 and 1990. He led the 1990 team in tackles and was named 3rd Team All SEC, ALL-SEC Freshman team in 1987, and the SEC Academic Honor Roll selection in 1990.
Jerry is married to his wife Donna and they have two boys Reid (16) and Clay (12).
