NOVICE COACH
Joey Civello
Joey Civello, a former Dolphin rower from 2006-09, enters his second year as the novice coach on the JU men's rowing staff.

Civello, a native of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., will assist JU head coach Jim Mitchell and assistant varsity coach Montia Rice with the varsity boats but will serve primarily as the head Freshmen/ Novice coach.

Prior to his return to JU, Civello coached at Stanton College Prep where he led the squad to the 2010 City Championships.

He began his rowing career as a walk-on novice at JU in 2005 and finished his collegiate rowing career with a silver medal at Dad Vails. He also earned several medals and three state championships during his four year career.

Civello is also a competitive member of the Jax Beach Lifeguard Competition Team where he won the 3.5 mile open ocean swim in 2008 and the USLA South Atlantic Open International Ironman in 2010. In 2011, his freshman team won the SIRA Regional lightweight 4 championship.

He graduated from JU in 2009 with bachelor degrees in marketing and geography. He is currently in the MBA program at JU.
