After completing his collegiate career at JU, Mike McCallister enters his second season with the Dolphin coaching staff as a volunteer assistant. McCallister will handle the JU outfielders while assisting Tommy Murphy with the Dolphin hitters. After graduating from JU in 2007, he spent two years as a head coach at South Sumpter High School. In two seasons as a right fielder at JU, McCallister was a member of the most successful squads in nearly a decade as the Dolphins produced the second most wins in program history (43), the program’s first A-Sun regular season title (2006), back-to-back A-Sun titles (2006-07) and consecutive NCAA Regional appearances for only the second time (1994-95). In 2006, McCallister batted .333 with 10 home runs and 54 RBI while earning A-Sun Tournament honors after hitting .692 (9-13) with a double, triple, home run, a 1.154 slugging percentage and a .692 on-base percentage in three games. In 2007, he batted .296 with five home runs, 11 doubles and five triples. Prior to JU, he played two seasons at Alabama as a right fielder for Jim Wells. He saw limited action in his sophomore season after batting .272 with 11 doubles, a triple and three home runs in 43 games as a freshman. In his prep career, he was a four-year starter at Clay High School under Robbie Thompson. In four years, he set the school record for career home runs (30) and single season homers while garnering all-state accolades as a junior and senior. He was also a four-year letterwinner as a linebacker in football and turned down several Division I scholarships to play baseball. McCallister earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology at JU in 2008. |
