Senior Steve Eagerton won his fifth straight decision while the Dolphin offense scored nine runs in the first three innings to lead the JU baseball team to a 10-5 win over Lipscomb, Friday evening at John Sessions Stadium.

JU (14-8, 5-2) snapped a two-game skid by tallying a game high 14 while handing LU (7-15, 0-4) its ninth straight loss.

“Our offense got going early on and Steve did another great job for us,” said JU head coach Terry Alexander. “Lipscomb started to make things interesting late but we were able to right the ship a little. I’d like to see us clean the defense as we head into tomorrow.”

Eagerton (5-0) got the win after allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts in seven innings. Freshman Adam Maxon added a scoreless inning of relief to close out the game.

Richie Goodenow (0-5) was tagged with the loss after allowing eight runs (three earned) on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 1.2 innings.

Sophomore center fielder Dan Gulbransen led the Dolphins by going 2-for-4 with two RBI while sophomore first baseman Adam Brett Walker finished 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI. Freshman third baseman Taylor Ratliff, junior designated hitter Kevin Lehane and senior right fielder Chris Connelly each also finished with multiple hits.

Josh Chism led the Bisons by going 5-for-5 while Matt Brewer tallied a team-high two RBI.

JU took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Walker hit a one-out RBI single and a run scored on a balk by Goodenow.

The Dolphins increased the lead to 8-0 in the second when Gulbransen beat out an RBI single to second, a run scored on a throwing error by Bisons shortstop Aaron Spragg, an infield RBI single by junior shortstop Jimmy Howick, an RBI single through the right side by Connelly and a two-run single through the left side by senior catcher Alex Swenson.

JU made it 9-0 in the third when Gulbransen hit an RBI single up the middle. The Dolphins would add another run in the fifth when Walker crushed a solo shot to center, his team-leading fifth of the season.

LU made it 10-5 in the eighth when Matt Brewer hit a two-run single to center, Kyle Henry hit an RBI single through the left side, a run scored on a throwing error to third and sacrifice fly to center by M.L. Williams.

The Dolphins and Bisons will continue their series on Saturday at 1 p.m. The contest will be broadcast live on 1010XL with Joel Lamp calling all the action or fans can follow live stats by logging onto
