Baseball signee Alex McRae named New Berlin NOW Newspapers Baseball “Player of the Year”
The JU baseball team has a lot to look forward to with newcomer Alex McRae (New Berlin, Wis.) as he earned New Berlin NOW Newspapers Baseball “Player of the Year” award on Tuesday.

McRae, who was a RHP/Utility at New Berlin Eisenhower high school, picked up his sixth overall “Player of the Year” award after earning it for the All-State, All-District, NOW Newspapers All-Suburban, All-Woodland Conference and All-Black Division teams.

On the mound, McRae finished with a 12-0 record in 14 games with a 0.72 ERA and eight complete games. He also batted .430, scored 39 runs, drove in 31 and had 21 extra base hits (13 doubles, three triples, five homers). He walked 25 times and only struck out once.

“We are very proud of what Alex has accomplished, as well as all of our recruits that will be starting their JU careers for us this year,” JU associate head coach Tim Montez said. “Wisconsin has been very good to us over the last several years, and this year is no exception with the addition of McRae and Nolan Peterson. We are confident that both of them will do well on and off the field, as they help us achieve our goal of competing for a national championship.”

As a junior, McRae was named to Team Wisconsin 2010, second team all-state and all-area, first team all-conference, all-division, all-district and all-suburban after batting .417 with six home runs and 34 RBI while notching a 10-1 record with a 2.25 ERA. He also played AAU ball with the Wisconsin Wildcats and the Racine Hitters.

McRae will also be joined from Wisconsin by Peterson, a right-handed pitcher and utility Marquette University High School in Milwaukee. He was rated No. 475 nationally and No. 2 in the state of Wisconsin by Perfect Game USA.

As a junior, Peterson earned second team all-conference honors after hitting .389 with six home runs, 51 RBI and 18 stolen bases while logging a 3.36 ERA, three complete games and 88 strikeouts. He was also a member of the USSA National Team which played in Japan over the summer of 2010. He also played for the Racine Hitters for three seasons.
