Saturday’s JU baseball contest against Belmont was postponed in the fifth inning due to rain storms in the Duval County. The teams will finish the series Sunday as part of a doubleheader at John Sessions Stadium at noon.

As per A-Sun rules, the Dolphins and Bruins will finish the final nine innings from Saturday’s halted contest that Belmont led 2-1 in the fifth inning. The second game will go seven innings. Fans can follow the action on JUDolphins.com

The Dolphins and Bruins started the day in a delay, with rain storms pushing the original start time back two hours and 16 minutes.

After the delay, the Bruins had three consecutive singles to start the second inning to load the bases. JU starter Drew Woods got a fly out in the next at-bat. James Ritchie hit a high chopper to third base that sophomore Taylor Ratliff leaped, caught and threw home for the force out. Woods got another force out on a fielder’s choice hit to end the threat.

Junior Ethan Loosen led off the second inning with a single to left field. Ratliff moved him to second with a sacrifice bunt. After a pop out, junior Dan Gulbransen followed with a single to right field to score Loosen for the 1-0 lead.

With one out in the fifth inning, William Dodd singled to right field for the Bruins. Zac Mitchell was hit by a Woods pitch in the next at-bat. Dylan Craig followed with a high chopper to second base that slipped in the right field, scoring Dodd to tie the contest. Greg Brody plated Micthell with the single in the next at-bat to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead. Woods battled to a 2-1 count to Judah Akers when the umpires pulled the teams for a weather delay that postponed the rest of the contest.
