Baseball travels to FGCU this weekend

After earning a win on Wednesday, the JU baseball team (10-7, 3-3) will return to Atlantic Sun Conference play with a three-game road series against conference leader Florida Gulf Coast (12-6, 6-0) beginning on Friday at 7 p.m. JU trails the all-time series against FGCU, 3-0, after being swept by the Eagles in the inaugural series at John Sessions Stadium last season.

Against Bethune-Cookman, JU extended its streak with at least 10 hits to eight consecutive games...junior first baseman Alex Martinez went 3-for-5 with three RBI for the second straight game...freshman third baseman Derik Grimes went 2-for-3 with a two RBI...senior catcher Jeremy Gillan went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI while junior left fielder Kyle Fleming finished 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI...junior second baseman Chuck Opachich also drove in two runs for the Dolphins...senior Joey Wedner (2-0) earned the win after allowing only one run on three hits in 1.1 innings of relief...freshman Clay Kollenbaum got the no-decision after allowing three runs on five hits with two strikeouts in 4.2 innings...junior Kyle Kriech struck out two in two perfect relief innings.
