Fleming and Gillan named to Gainesville Regional All-Tournament Team
Senior outfielder Kyle Fleming and senior catcher Jeremy Gillan were each named to the 2009 Gainesville Regional All-Tournament Team after helping the JU baseball team to its third regional appearance in the last four years last weekend at McKethan Stadium in Gainesville, Fla.
“Both of these guys were junior college transfers who made an immediate and lasting impact on our program,” said JU head coach Terry Alexander. “I was very happy for them to go to a regional in their final year and now I’m glad that they get some more recognition for their hard work.”
Fleming, who earned all-A-Sun Tournament honors, led the Dolphins in batting after going 8-for-13 (.615) with a double, two RBI, nine total bases, a .692 slugging percentage and a .643 on-base percentage.
The Jacksonville native finished his final year ranked third on the squad with a .316 batting average, second with four outfield assists and fourth with 61 hits on the year.
Gillan, who also earned all-A-Sun Tournament accolades, ranked second on the squad in the regional by batting 6-for-13 (.462) with two doubles, two RBI, eight total bases, a .615 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage.
The Port St. Lucie, Fla. native finished his final season with team highs in batting average (.400), doubles (21), RBI (62), total bases (144), slugging percentage (.670) and on-base percentage (.485). He also became the first JU player to finish the year hitting .400 since Chad Hauseman accomplished the feat in 2003.
