Baseball adds two more players for the 2013 season
Blake Hanestad (sliding) is one of two juco transfers from California
The JU baseball program went to the West Coast for its newest roster depth by adding junior college transfers Blake Hanestad (San Leandro, Calif.) and Drew Luther (El Dorado, Calif.) for the 2013 season.
Hanestad, a utility player, helped lead Los Medanos College to a second place finish in the Bay Area Conference and a playoff berth in 2012. He posted a .303 average and 30 RBI, while also adding a 2.51 ERA on the mound in 61.1 innings. As a freshman, he hit .374 en route to earning All-America, all-state, all-league and team MVP honors. “Blake is a solid utility player that can pitch, play the outfield and infield,” JU associate head coach Tim Montez said. “He is a scrappy, bulldog type of player that can handle the bat. Blake will bring strong work ethic and team approach mentality.” Luther batted .369 with two home runs and 27 RBI in 2012 as a catcher at Fullerton College. His RBI total ranked eighth in the Orange Empire Conference. At El Dorado High School, Lurther hit better than .330 in final two seasons to receive first team all-league honors. “Drew is a solid defensive catcher that can also play third base and the outfield,” Montez said. “He does a great job handling a pitching staff and calling a game. Drew should give us much needed depth at the catching position.” The California duo joins Kris Molter (3B/Bishop Kenny HS), Michael Babb (OF/Bartram Trail HS), Nathan Koslowski (Episcopal HS), Brady North (1B/Hillsborough JC), Zach Gordon (RHP/St. Petersburg College), Josh Baker (OF/LHP/Milwaukee, Wis.) and Nate Ricci (OF/1B /Madison, Wis.) and RHP Jacob Terry (Navarre HS) who all signed with JU in the fall. 2013 Baseball Signees
