Baseball Adds Pair To Coaching Staff
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University baseball head coach Tim Montez has announced the addition of former player Alex Swenson and Eric Vasquez to the Dolphins’ coaching staff. Swenson returns to his alma-mater as a volunteer assistant coach while Vasquez will assume the role of director of baseball operations.
“I am excited to welcome Alex and Eric to our coaching staff,” Montez said.
“As a former captain and starting catcher, Alex’s experience with our program will be a valuable asset to our staff where he will coach the catchers, assist with the pitching staff and be heavily involved with on campus recruiting. He has the energy, passion and drive that will mesh well with the rest of my staff.”
“On the administration side of things, Eric will be our Director of Baseball Operations. I am truly grateful for the leap of faith he and his family have made in moving across country to be part of our family here at JU. Eric has a strong baseball background, along with valuable administration experience which will be a huge benefit in our every day to day operations.”
A graduate of JU’s AACSB accredited Davis College of Business, Swenson was a three-year captain and a member of the Dolphins’ NCAA Regional Teams in 2007, 2009 and 2011. Following his collegiate career, the five time Atlantic Sun All-Academic selection signed a professional contract with the Newark Bears. Swenson was a member of the JU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as well.
Vasquez has over 10 years of baseball experience and makes his way to the River City from California where he was on staff at the College of the Desert this past season. A graduate of Cal State Fullerton, his duties for the Dolphins will include travel coordination, camp director and the organizing of other administrative duties.
