Scott Schaub will now advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior infielder Scott Schaub (Ocala, Fla.) has been named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Schaub has been a machine for the Dolphins this season hitting a team best .412 ranking him seventh in the nation in batting average. His .489 on base percentage meanwhile ranks 16th in the NCAA. Schaub has a team high 27 RBI in 32 games played this season and ranks sixth in the Atlantic Sun with a 0.84 RBI per game average.

Academically, the senior carries a 3.45 cumulative grade point average and is majoring in exercise science.

Schaub entered this spring as one of 21 student-athletes for Jacksonville baseball to hold a GPA cumulative of 3.0 or higher.

Jacksonville has now had a baseball student-athlete recognized in each of the past four seasons. Jake Huxtable earned the honor last season while Dan Gulbransen was recognized in 2011 and 2012 when he went on to earn Academic All-American status. Jeremy Gillian (2009) and Matt Dobbins (2006) join Gulbransen on the list of Academic All-Americans for the program.

Schaub is one of 12 student-athletes earning First Team honors for NCAA Division I District IV. He will now advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
