Baseball Scores Four in the Seventh to Defeat South Alabama, 8-5

MOBILE, Ala. - Junior RHP Neal Frontz (Jacksonville/Trinity Christian/Florida JC) earned his third win of the season while senior Hunter Davis (Wakulla, Fla.) collected his third save to lead JU baseball to an 8-5 win over host South Alabama in the final day of the 20th Annual Coca-Cola Classic, Sunday afternoon at Stanky Field. JU (7-1) is off to its best start since going 8-1 in 1999. Southern Alabama (2-4) fell to 1-2 over the weekend.
Frontz (3-0) allowed four runs (two earned) on eight hits while walking four and striking out six in 6.0 innings. Davis allowed one hit and struck out a batter in the ninth to earn his second save in consecutive days.
With the score tied at 4-4 after six innings, the Dolphins scored four runs on three hits while taking advantage of a fielding error by Josh Stapleton at second base. Senior Alex Jamieson (Sarasota, Fla.), sophomore Preston Pehrson (Annapolis, Md.) and freshman Matt Lopez (Oviedo, Fla.) each finished with multiple hits to lead the Dolphin offense. Lopez and senior Sean McHugh (Port Orange, Fla.) each drove in two runs.
Earlier in the day, No. 12 Texas A&M defeated Wake Forest, 12-2, in seven innings to go undefeated over the weekend. JU (2-1) finished second while host South Alabama (1-2) and Wake Forest (0-4) rounded out the rest of the field.
The Dolphins will next host USF on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 3 p.m.
