Georgia State Rallies for 4-3 Win Over Baseball

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior Sean McHugh (Port Orange, Fla.) and sophomore Daniel Murphy (Jacksonville/Englewood) each finished with an RBI single but Georgia State rallied for three runs in the eighth to defeat JU baseball, 4-3, Friday evening at Alexander Brest Field. JU falls to 12-10 overall and 2-6 in Atlantic Sun Conference play, while Georgia State improve to 13-6, 6-1.
Justin Meyer (1-0) earned the win after hurling 2.1 innings of hitless relief.
Junior LHP Donald Brickle (Jacksonville/Arlington Country Day) was tagged with the loss (2-2) after allowing four runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
JU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning after an RBI groundout by junior Zach Haniff (Bradenton, Fla.) to third base scored McHugh from third with one out. The Dolphins increased the lead to 2-0 in the third when McHugh drove in sophomore Doug Fowler (High Point, N.C.) with a single through the left side. JU increased its lead to 3-0 in the fifth after an RBI single to center by Murphy with two outs.
The Panthers made it 3-1 in the seventh when Nick McEntyre hit a comebacker to Brickle to score Justin Newman from third. GSU rallied for three more runs in the eighth after an RBI single by Chris Dentler through the left side and a two-run double to left center by Jean-Michel Rochon-Salvas.
JU and Georgia State will continue its three-game series at Alexander Brest Field on Saturday at 6 p.m.
