Baseball Drops a 5-4 Contest to No. 20 UCF in Game Two

ORLANDO - Senior Sean McHugh (Port Orange, Fla.) finished 3-for-5 with an RBI but a Drew Butera solo home run in the bottom of the 11th gave No. 20 UCF a 5-4 win over JU baseball in the second game of a scheduled doubleheader, Saturday afternoon at Jay Bergman Field. JU falls to 13-14 overall and 3-8 in Atlantic Sun Conference play, while the Golden Knights improves to 25-5, 7-1.
Derek Abriola (1-0) earned the win after hurling 0.2 innings of hitless relief.
Senior RHP Hunter Davis (Wakulla, Fla.) was tagged with the loss after allowing a run on three hits while striking out three in 3.2 innings of relief. It marked the first earned run allowed by Davis this season.
UCF jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second after Marshall Bernhard scored from third after a throwing error by junior Logan James at third and an RBI groundout by Matt Horwath.
JU cut the deficit to 2-1 in the fourth after an RBI single down the right field line by senior Sean McHugh (Port Orange, Fla.). The Dolphins took a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning when Gronkowski drove a two-run double into the gap in left center with two outs.
The Golden Knight recaptured the lead, 4-3, in the bottom of the fifth after a two-run double to right center by Ryan Bono.
The Dolphins tied the game, 4-4, in the eighth after an RBI fielder's choice by junior pinch hitter Zach Haniff (Bradenton, Fla.).
JU and UCF will complete its three-game series at Jay Bergman Field on Monday, March 28 at 6 p.m.
