Neal Frontz Named A-Sun Baseball Pitcher of the Week
April 4, 2005
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Junior RHP Neal Frontz (Jacksonville/Trinity Christian/Florida College) was named Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week after throwing 8.0 scoreless innings in an 8-1 win over Florida Atlantic on April 2, the conference office announced today. Frontz becomes the first Dolphin to receive A-Sun accolades this season and the first JU pitcher selected since Dennis Robinson won the award on April 25, 2004.
Following a 7-6 loss to FAU in 11 innings on Friday, Frontz went a season-high 8.0 innings without allowing a run, while scattering five hits with two walks and three strikeouts. His previous career long outing was 6.1 innings against USF on Feb. 26. During the contest, Frontz used two double plays to get out of innings, avoided a second and third jam with one out in the second inning and retired all three batters he faced in three innings.
With the momentum of Saturday's win, the Dolphins carried things over in the rubber game on Sunday by earning its first season-series win over Florida Atlantic since 1994, with an 8-7 victory.
Frontz leads all JU starters with a 5-1 record, 38 strikeouts and a .263 opponent batting average. He is second on the squad with 49.2 innings pitched and third with a 4.53 ERA. His win total ties him for second in the A-Sun, while his 28.2 innings in conference action ranks sixth.
JU will return to the non-conference portion of its schedule by traveling to No. 8 Florida State on Wednesday, April 6, at 6 p.m. The game will be heard live on ESPN 1460 with Cole Pepper handling the play-by-play, while former Dolphin coach Rusty Greene provides color commentary.
