Six-Run Seventh Paces No. 9 Florida State to 11-4 Win Over Baseball

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Seniors Sean McHugh (Port Orange, Fla.) and Alex Jamieson (Sarasota, Fla.) and sophomore Daniel Murphy (Jacksonville/Edgewater) each finished with two hits to give the Dolphins an early lead, but a six-run seventh inning gave No. 9 Florida State an 11-4 win over JU Baseball Tuesday evening, in front of 795 fans at Alexander Brest Field. JU (17-20) out hit FSU, 10-7, but issued 12 walks in the contest, while the Seminoles (33-8) won its 12th consecutive game over the Dolphins.

With the score tied, 4-4, in the top of the seventh, Florida State scored six runs on only one hit (a bases loaded triple) while taking advantage of one Dolphin error.

Bryan Henry earned the win (2-2) after giving up only one run (none earned) on three hits with no walks and four strikeouts in 5.0 innings of relief.

Junior LHP Aaron Parvey (North Ft. Myers, Fla.) was tagged with the loss (0-1) after allowing a run and a walk. Senior RHP Ashley Roque (Jacksonville/Bolles/Maryland-Baltimore College) hurled 3.2 innings of scoreless relief and freshman RHP Brock Schnabel (Winter Haven, Fla.) increased his scoreless innings streak to 11.0 after allowing only a hit with two strikeouts in 1.1 innings. Junior RHP Josh Deel (Jacksonville/Wolfson) allowed a run on one hit with a walk and a strikeout in 1.0 innings to make his first appearance of the season.

JU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the second inning after a two-run single up the middle by McHugh and an RBI single to second by Murphy.

FSU took its first lead, 4-3, in the top of the third when Ryan Malone hit a two-run double down the left-field line, Gibbs Chapman hit an RBI single to right and Daniel Wardell drew a bases-loaded walk.

The Dolphins evened the contest, 4-4, in the bottom of the third after an RBI double down the right-field line by Jamieson.

JU will now travel to Gardner-Webb for a three-game series beginning on Friday, April 15, at 3 p.m.
