Neal Frontz Earns Second A-Sun Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week Honor

April 25, 2005

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Junior RHP Neal Frontz (Jacksonville/Trinity Christian/Florida College) was named Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season after hurling his first complete game in a 7-1 win over Lipscomb on April 22, the conference office announced today.

Frontz, who also recorded the first complete game of the season for JU, becomes the first Dolphin pitcher to receive the honor twice in one season since joining the A-Sun in 1999. He also becomes the first Dolphin to receive A-Sun accolades twice in a season since Chad Hauseman was named player of the week on three occasions in 2003.

Setting the tone for the Dolphins last weekend, Frontz went a season-high 9.0 innings and allowed only one run (a solo homer) on four hits with a walk and four strikeouts. During the contest, Frontz retired all three batters he faced in four innings while only throwing 103 pitches in the contest. In his previous career-high outing, Frontz hurled 8.0 scoreless innings while scattering five hits with two walks and three strikeouts in an 8-1 win over Florida Atlantic on April 2. During the contest, Frontz used two double plays to get out of innings, avoided a second and third jam with one out in the second inning and retired all three batters he faced in three innings.

With the momentum of Friday's win, the Dolphins carried things over on Saturday by earning its first conference series sweep of the season by closing out the doubleheader against Lipscomb.

Frontz leads all JU starters with a 3.96 ERA, 50 strikeouts and a .251 opponent batting average. He is also second on the squad with a 6-3 record.

JU will return to the non-conference portion of its schedule by traveling to Georgia Southern on Wednesday, April 27, at 6 p.m.
