Baseball Rallies for Doubleheader Split Against Stetson

DeLAND, Fla. - Junior LHP Kyle DeVries (Holland, Mich.) earned his eighth win of the season and senior RHP Hunter Davis (Wakulla, Fla.) notched his ninth save to lead JU baseball to a 3-2 win over Stetson in Game Two of a doubleheader, Saturday evening at Melching Field. The Hatters took Game One by a score of 4-2. JU improves to 21-24 overall and 11-14 in the Atlantic Sun, while Stetson drops to 26-18, 13-10.

DeVries (8-3) earned the win after allowing two runs on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts in 7.0 innings. Hunter Davis got the save after hurling 2.0 scoreless innings, despite a 27- minute delay with two outs in the ninth.

Trailing 2-0, JU rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth after an RBI single through the left side by sophomore Daniel Murphy (Jacksonville/Englewood) and a two-run wild pitch by Dixon.

In game one, Stetson jumped out to a three run lead with a run in the first and two runs in the bottom fourth.

JU rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh after RBI single by freshman Matt Lopez (Oviedo, Fla.) and a sacrifice fly to center by sophomore Logan James (Clearwater, Fla.).

The Hatters made it 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh to end the scoring in the contest.

Chris Ingoglia (6-3) earned the win after allowing two runs on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

Junior RHP Neal Frontz (Jacksonville/Trinity Christian/Florida CC) was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits with two walks in 7.1 innings.

JU and Stetson will complete its three-game series on Sunday, May 1 at 11 a.m. The game can be heard live on 1320, The Patriot with Cole Pepper calling the action.
