Baseball splits with Campbell in A-Sun action

Buies Creek, S.C. - Sophomore LHP Matt Dobbins won his sixth consecutive decision but the Dolphin split a road series at Campell, 7-5, 10-11, Friday afternoon at Taylor Field. The Dolphins are off to their best start since going 19-3 during the 1989 season under former head coach Tom Bradley.

JU (19-5, 3-2) got a sixth consecutive win from LHP Matt Dobbins before losing the nightcap to the Camels. The Camels (5-14, 1-4) won their first conference game of the season. Senior Gordie Gronkowski extended his career high hitting streak to 14 games.

In game one, Dobbins (6-0) earned the win after allowing only three runs, one hit with two walks and three strikeouts in 6.1 innings. The Dolphins rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh to break a 3-3 tie to take game one. Junior Thomas LePage finished 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Dolphin offense.

In game two, the Dolphins fell to Campbell, 11-10, despite holding a 10-7 lead going into the eighth. Junior Daniel Murphy finished 4-for-6 in the game to lead the Dolphin offense.

Junior RHP Justin Young (1-2) was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits in 1.2 innings.

The Dolphins will play the rubber game against Campbell on Saturday at 1 p.m.
