BOCA RATON, Fla. - Senior LHP Kyle DeVries earned his first win since Feb. 11 and junior Daniel Murphy goes 2-for-3 with four RBI to lead the JU baseball team to an 8-7 win over Florida Atlantic in game two of an Atlantic Sun Conference doubleheader at FAU Field, Saturday evening. With the two-game sweep, the Dolphins won their fifth consecutive conference series for the first time since joining the A-Sun in 1999.

"Once again, our offense came alive early and we got some good pitching when we needed it," said JU head coach Terry Alexander. "We need to find a killer instinct now and try to sweep the series tomorrow."

DeVries earned the win after allowing three runs on four hits with a walk and a strikeout in 2.1 innings of relief. Junior RHP Justin Young did not earn the save but closed the contest out with only one run earned in two innings of relief. Murphy and sophomore Matt Lopez each finished with multiple hits to lead the Dolphin offense.

Brandon Cooney (2-6) was tagged with the loss after allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits with four walks and three strikeouts in five innings. The Owls also committed seven errors in the contest.

JU (32-13, 14-6) took an early 1-0 lead in the first when Murphy hit a sacrifice fly to center field.

FAU (22-21, 8-12) went ahead, 2-1, in the bottom of the first after a lead-off homer to right center by Jordan Hafer and an RBI triple to right center by Anthony Albano.

The Dolphins retook the lead, 5-2, in the fourth after sophomore Matt Lopez scored on a throwing error to first, junior Pete Clifford drove in a run with a groundout to second and Murphy hit a two-run single up the middle.

The Owls cut the deficit to 5-3 in the fifth when Tim Mascia hit an RBI single to right field. FAU had runners on second and third with two outs but DeVries entered the contest and got Travis Ozga to ground out to third to end the inning.

JU extended the lead to 8-3 in the sixth when freshman Brian Hudgins scored on a throwing error at first base, freshman Anthony Bernazard scored from third on a wild pitch and Murphy drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to left.

The Owls cut the deficit to 8-7 in the eighth when Mario Duarte hit a two-run double to right center and Hafer and Tyler Stevens each drove in a run with a groundout.

JU and FAU will play the series finale at FAU Field on Sunday at noon.
