Matt Dobbins earns Third-Team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America honors

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- - Sophomore left-handed pitcher Matt Dobbins earned third-team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America honors, as announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Wednesday.

"This is a tremendous honor for Matt," said JU head coach Terry Alexander. "He has done great job for us on the field this season and we are proud of the way he got in done in the classroom also this year. We are excited to see more great things to come to Matt over the next few seasons."

In the classroom, Dobbins posts a 3.74 grade point average in his major of sociology. He also was selected to serve as the president of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee for the 2006-07 school semester.

On the field, he was named Atlantic Sun Conference "Pitcher of the Year" and earned first-team all-conference accolades after leading Dolphins with a nation's best 12 wins on the mound. He is also a semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace College Baseball Player of the Year, which will be narrowed to three finalists following the NCAA Super Regionals on Thursday, June 16.

Dobbins was named A-Sun "Pitcher of the Week" after hurling a career-best one-hit complete game victory over Lipscomb and helping the Dolphins secure their first-ever A-Sun regular season title on May 18.

The Dolphins travel to Athens, Ga. on Friday to compete in the NCAA Regional against Florida State at 3 p.m.
