A nine-year veteran of the NFL, Ernie Mills enters his third season with the JU coaching staff as wide receivers coach and in charge of returns on special teams. Under his tutelage, JU receivers have gone to new heights. His first year saw Nate Conner, Michael Jenner and Geavon Tribble each surpass the 1,000 career receiving yards mark. His second season saw the receivers rack up the most yards in the history of the program, led by Tribble who finished his career as the all-time leader in receiving yards and tied for the most touchdowns. On special teams, Mills experiences from the professional ranks paid major dividends as he helped develop Elliott Finkley into one of the top return men in the country. Finkley returned three punts for touchdowns – setting a new school record for the most in a season. Another former Gator star, Mills was a four-year letterwinner at Florida from 1986-90, graduating with a degree in exercise and sports science. Following his collegiate career, Mills was drafted with the 73rd overall pick in the 1991 NFL Draft and made a name for himself as a wide receiver - playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1991-96, helping the Steelers to the Super Bowl. Mills is single and resides in Jacksonville. |
