Preseason camp begins on Monday for JU
The JU football team has its first meeting of the 2008 season on Monday as 97 players reported for the first day of preseason camp.

The Dolphins went through a dizzying day of paperwork, dorm check-in, medical reviews and meetings with coaches, staff and administration.

“The first day of camp is always the toughest,” said JU head coach Kerwin Bell. “We have a lot of stuff that we have to cover in a short amount of time before we can even set foot on the field. Everyone is fired up and ready for practice to start.”

JU’s freshmen and newcomers will go through their first practice at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, with the returners hitting the field for the first time at 3:30 p.m.

The Dolphins return 13 starters from a year ago and 56 letterwinners coming back for the upcoming season. Joining the returnees is a talented group of newcomers that will be pressing for playing time from the start of practice.

“I like the fact that we are going to have competition at each spot this year,” Bell said. “We’ve got a lot of guys coming in that we feel can do the job for us, which is going to push each player to get better.”
