JU starts game week preparation for Savannah State

The wait to start the 2008 football season is almost over for JU.

Just five days away from the season opener at Savannah State, the Dolphins were breaking down film as they turned their eyes to the upcoming season.

“We’re focused on Savannah State and I’m looking forward to a good week of preparation for a tough opponent,” said JU head coach Kerwin Bell.  “I’ve been really pleased with how we handled our business during preseason camp and I expect for that to continue during the season.”

One of the bright spots to emerge from preseason camp has been the quality depth that the Dolphins have at every position.

“Practice this fall has been really heated as we’ve got a lot of guys who can step in and play for us,” Bell said.  “Each position was very competitive, which made everyone on the team strive to get better to earn their spot on the travel squad.”

JU has struggled in season openers in the program’s first 10 seasons, going just 3-7 and is 1-5 on the road.

“Our focus has been on getting things done right, so when we face adversity on the road, we know we can lean on each other and pull together as a team,” Bell said.  “This group has great chemistry and doesn’t want to let their teammates down.”
