Four Dolphins earn first team all-PFL honors
With its first Pioneer Football League title in tow, the JU football team had 15 players earn all-conference recognition.

Four Dolphins were named first team all-conference, with freshman quarterback Josh McGregor earning PFL Offensive Freshman of the Year.

Earning first team all-conference honors was running back Rudell Small, offensive tackle Michael Aguilar, defensive back Tremaine Mack and return specialist Elliott Finkley.

“This group has accomplished so much and it is great for them to be honored by their peers in the league,” said JU head coach Kerwin Bell. “This has been an entire team effort and these honors are part of a bigger honor of being the conference champion.”

On the all-PFL second team is receiver Geavon Tribble, offensive guard Chris Tessitore, linebacker Joseph Fennell and defensive back Robson Noel.

There were seven players to receive all-PFL honorable mention – tight end Chris Kuck, quarterback Josh McGregor, fullback Eric Kornhauser, defensive linemen Austin Knipp and Shaun Lewis, defensive back Jason Wood and placekicker Donovan Curry.

Small was one of four unanimous first team all-conference selections after leading the Dolphins in rushing with 1,318 yards on the ground – the second highest total in school history. He rushed for 13 touchdowns, a school record for a season and putting him atop the school’s career rushing touchdown list.

Aguilar led the way for Small and wraps up a stellar career with the PFL championship, having blocked for record setting quarterbacks Chris Horton and Josh McGregor.

One of the top defensive backs in the PFL, Mack made a habit of scoring this season – running back two interceptions for touchdowns while also returning a fumble for a score.

Finkley had a stellar campaign as one of the top punt returners in the nation. He ran back three punts for touchdowns, setting a school record for the most in a season, while ranking in the top 10 nationally in punt return average.

The Dolphins wrap up their season at the third annual Gridiron Classic in Albany, N.Y. on Dec. 6. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m., with the game televised on the YES Network.
