Home Sweet Home – Football set for home opener vs. Old Dominion
After spending the first two weeks on the road, the JU football team returns to D.B. Milne Field for the home opener on Saturday against Old Dominion.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m., with the game being broadcast on 1010XL. Barry Milligan will be calling all the action with the Bono’s Barbecue Pregame Show starting at 12:30 p.m.

JU (1-1) is looking to rebound from a 27-0 loss at Samford last week in which the Dolphins gained just 101 yards of total offense.

“We’ve got a lot of things we need to work on this week,” said JU head coach Kerwin Bell. “While we had a lot of missed assignments, there were some positives that we can take out of last week’s game as we get ready for a good team from Old Dominion.”

Among the positives was the play of the JU defense, which held Samford to just 27 points after they scored 24 against UCF the week prior. The Dolphins continued to attack the quarterback, picking up four sacks and eight tackles for a loss.

JU enters this week ranked second nationally in sacks, averaging six per game, and is 11th nationally in tackles for a loss per game with an average of 9.0.

Allen Fennell and Mike Mayoral lead the team in tackles for a loss, averaging 1.75 per game which is tied for 32nd nationally. Bradley Burns leads the team in sacks and is averaging 1.0 per game, tying him for 15th.

The Dolphins are facing an Old Dominion (2-0) team that is making its first road trip ever. The Monarchs, in their first season of football, won their first two games at home handily.
