Football renews rivalry with Davidson
The JU football team will renew its longest running rivalry as they open Pioneer Football League play against Davidson.

Kickoff for Saturday’s game at D.B. Milne Field is set for 1 p.m. The Bono’s Barbecue pregame show will air at 12:30 p.m., with the “Voice of the Dolphins” Barry Milligan calling the action. Fans can also watch the game live via ASun.TV.

The game marks the 12th meeting all time between the schools as Davidson and JU have played every year since JU’s inception. Since JU opened the series by winning the first games, the Wildcats have won six of the last eight – including the last three.

“Every game in conference play is important,” said JU head coach Kerwin Bell. “Davidson is a well-coached, very disciplined team that is hungry to win. We know that we have to play at a high level for 60 minutes – we can’t take one play off.”

JU (1-2) is looking to bounce back from dropping a 28-27 decision to Old Dominion two weeks ago in the home opener.

“We’ve had two great weeks of practice and have put that behind us,” Bell said. “We watched the film and used it as a teaching moment. After we watched the film, we put it behind us and put all of our focus on Davidson.”

Jacksonville is 1-1 in its Pioneer Football League opener under Bell and is 2-1 since the advent of the full league schedule in 2006.
