Go West! Dolphins head to Pacific Coast to face San Diego
Coming off its best performance to date in 2009, the JU football team hopes that it is a sign of things to come as they travel to the West Coast to face San Diego on Saturday.

Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. (EST), with the game being broadcast on 1010XL as the “Voice of the Dolphins” Barry Milligan calls the action. The Bono’s Barbecue Pregame Show starts at 4 p.m.

The Dolphins (3-3, 2-1 PFL) face the preseason pick to win the Pioneer Football League in USD (3-3, 2-2 PFL) that is coming off of a 21-14 loss at home to Drake last week.

To aid the team in adjusting to the time change, JU left on Thursday afternoon and will return on the red-eye flight after the game.

“San Diego is an awfully good football program and we know we have to play our best against these guys,” said JU head coach Kerwin Bell. “We have never won at their place and we’ve done everything to give them the best chance to win the game.”

Jacksonville is looking for another stellar day from its defense. The Dolphins held Morehead State to a school-record low 113 yards of total offense. JU did a number on the Eagles rushing attack, limiting MSU to just 25 yards rushing on 33 carries.

Aiding the Dolphins defensive effort was a stellar day from the secondary. With the unit getting its first full week of practice together this season, JU allowed just 10 completed passes for only 88 yards.

The offense wasn’t too shabby either. Josh McGregor completed 13-of-24 passes for 294 yards and four touchdowns, with Josh Philpart catching six of those for 192 yards with two touchdowns.

Against San Diego, the Dolphins face a team that has a strong secondary and has the ability to throw the ball all over the field. The Toreros have 10 passing touchdowns and have the fourth ranked pass defense in the PFL.
