Junior varsity football ends home finale on high note, beats Cobb Saints Academy, 52-12
The JU junior varsity football won its final home game of the season on Monday as it took down Cobb Saints Academy, 52-12, at D.B. Milne Field.
The Dolphins (2-2) were led by quarterback Jonathon Jones who threw for two touchdowns. Running back Robert DiMarco showed off his legs with several flashy rushes.
The Dolphins opened up the scoring quickly when, three minutes into the first quarter, Jones completed a 25-yard pass to tight end Matt Meehan who made a great diving catch in the end zone.
The hosts would score two more times in the first quarter with Jones throwing for his second touchdown, a 46-yard completion to wide receiver Ryne Knuth, and a fumble recovery in the end zone as the horn sounded the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter saw quarterback Rafeal Echemendia record his only score of the game, completing a 35-yard pass to wide receiver Quinton Davis on a fourth down play.
In the third quarter, quarterback Drew Phillips, who saw most of the second half action, completed a 5-yard post to wide receiver Matt Milton in the back of the end zone. Earlier in the drive, DiMarco broke a 30-yard run, hurdling one of the Saints’ defenders on his way to the five yard line.
The third quarter was capped off with a 40-yard field goal from kicker Eric Cuoco.
In the fourth quarter, the Dolphins recovered another fumble in the end zone and running back Feliz Collazo pushed a 1-yard run for six to cap off the 52-12 victory.
The Dolphins are back in action in the last game of the season at Webber International at 6 p.m.
