Football host Valparaiso on Saturday
The JU football team will look to stay in the win column for the rest of season starting on Saturday when the Dolphins host Valparaiso at D.B. Milne Field. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.

The Dolphins (4-4, 3-2) are trying to win at least two of their final three contests to secure consecutive winning seasons for the first time in school history.

“We are excited to get back onto the field,” said JU head coach Kerwin Bell. “The loss last week left a sour taste in our mouths and we want to get back to winning again. Our team has had a great week of practice and we are looking forward to getting a good result in our final three games.”

On Oct. 31, JU were victims to some bad voodoo as Drake recorded two fourth quarter scores to rally past the Dolphins for a 45-38 victory in Des Moines, Iowa.

Trailing 38-32, Drake drove 60 yards on seven plays despite losing starting quarterback Mike Piatkowski with his backup Peter Badovinac scoring on a 1-yard keeper to tie the game with 11:21 left in regulation.

On the ensuing kickoff, Colby Walden fumbled the return for JU and the Bulldogs recovered at the JU 26-yard line. Five plays later, Drake was celebrating its first lead of the game when Stephen Platek scored from two yards out to put the Bulldogs up 45-38 with 9:04 left in the game.

The Dolphins had two more close chances to get the game-winning score, but the Bulldogs withheld their ground to secure the win.

The comeback by Drake overshadowed another big day by the JU offense. The Dolphins got 100 yards on 19 carries with one touchdown from Rudell Small, his fourth 100-yard effort of the season. McGregor threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns by completing a career-best 27 passes on 43 attempts, with 10 of those going to Josh Philpart, who finished with 116 receiving yards - his fourth 100-yard day of the season.
