Josh McGregor named PFL Offensive Player of the Week
With his third straight 300-yard passing day, JU quarterback Josh McGregor was named Pioneer Football League “Offensive Player of the Week” on Monday.
The Dolphins signal-caller completed 21-of-35 for 320 yards with one touchdown. He also scored on a 39-yard run, the longest of his career.
“Josh has another solid performance for us this week,” said JU head coach Kerwin Bell. “We knew they were going to really defend our air attack, so we didn’t throw as many touchdowns as we usually do. But Josh did a great job of distributing the ball and making a lot of positive plays.
“Josh’s game was aided by the play of our offensive line and our running game. The guys up front did a pretty good job of protecting him and allowing him to look downfield to make some plays.”
McGregor’s numbers so far this season are mind boggling.
In six games this season, he has thrown for 1,859 yards and 18 touchdowns – which ranks in the top five on JU’s single-season list in only half a season and is on pace to shatter his own school records.
He has thrown for at least 300 yards in five of JU’s six games, including a career-best 405 yards at Davidson. His current run puts him four yards shy of 7,000 for his career, which is the sixth-highest total among active quarterbacks in the country and is the highest among any junior quarterback.
With his direction of the aerial attack, JU is ranked fourth in the country in passing offense and is fifth nationally in total offense.
The Dolphins will put their four-game winning streak on the line this Saturday as they travel to face Valparaiso. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. (EST).
