With their impressive performances in the win over Valparaiso, Rudell Small and Josh Hostetler were named Pioneer Football League “Players of the Week.”

Small was joined by fellow running back J.J. Laster in receiving CFPA honorable mention running back of the week honors. Sophomore defensive lineman Mike Mayoral also earned his first CFPA defensive line performer of the week honor.

“This was a complete team effort and it shows in the recognition being spread around the team,” said JU head coach Kerwin Bell. “We did a solid job in all three phases of the game – something we’re going to build on this week in practice for Marist.”

Small was named PFL “Offensive Player of the Week” after he rushed for 192 yards on 12 carries, averaging 16 yards per rush, while scoring three touchdowns in just two quarters of action. He also caught two passes for 29 yards, giving 212 all-purpose yards.

Laster meanwhile rushed for 79 yards on 11 carries with two touchdowns, averaging 7.2 yards per rush. He also caught two passes for 43 yards with one touchdown, giving him 122 all-purpose yards with three touchdowns.

Hostetler came up a point short in tying the PFL record for points in a game by a kicker with 14. He made his only field goal attempt and was 11-of-12 on extra point attempts.

Mayoral was a force on the defensive front for JU, while he only had three tackles he one tackle for a loss, two fumble recoveries and one quarterback pressure.

The Dolphins return to action this Saturday for Homecoming against Marist. Kickoff is set for Noon at D.B. Milne Field.
