JU Season Outlook: Special Teams
Unit Coaches: Kerry Webb, Ernie Mills
Overview: Armed with a handful of dangerous kick and punt returners along with a fresh-faced group of kickers and punters, this could be an interesting season for special teams. On the return side, CB Colby Walden and WRs Larry Thompson and Adrian Riley all are back as is Dorian Guy who broke his thumb against San Diego last season. Three kickers are working to replace departed Josh Hostetler and all three are young. Dallas Stubbs and Blake Myregaard are freshmen and Bladen Gudz a sophomore but have been showing well in camp. Garrett Mohr has the punting job locked up and has been very solid in camp. He comes from good stock; his dad is former NFL punter Chris Mohr.
Key Returners: Return specialists Colby Walden, Larry Thompson, Adrian Riley, Dorian Guy, long snapper Eric Baker.
Key Losses: PK Josh Hostetler, returner Elliott Finkley.
Promising Newcomers: PK Blake Myregaard, PK Bladen Gudz, PK Dallas Stubbs, P Garrett Mohr, returner Yeovanti Williams.
Unit Strengths: The returners have experience and have shown a propensity to break some big returns.
Unit Weaknesses: Experience on the kicking side. Only Gudz has any collegiate experience.
Coaches Quote: “I don’t feel nervous about returns,’’ – Coach Ernie Mills
