Football Falls To Florida International, 39-6

MIAMI (AP) - Rashod Smith ran for 261 yards on 21 carries and scored two touchdowns as Florida International snapped a three-game losing streak by beating Jacksonville 39-6 Thursday night.
Florida International (4-5) ran for 340 yards. The Golden Panthers came in ranked 115th out of 123 Division I-A teams with an average of 81 yards rushing.
Freshman quarterback Mike Sturgill threw for 113 yards - 106 below his average - and two interceptions for Jacksonville (2-6).
Chad Davis' 1-yard touchdown run gave Jacksonville a 6-3 lead early in the second quarter. On FIU's ensuing possession, Smith scored on a 9-yard run to give the Golden Panthers the lead for good.
Smith had 171 yards by halftime, and scored on an 89-yard run in the third quarter - the longest play of the season for FIU. The Golden Panthers scored 26 third-quarter points.
FIU quarterback Jamie Burke completed 10 of 19 passes for 185 yards and one touchdown, a 69-yarder to Harold Leath in the third quarter.
The game was delayed for 17 minutes with 2:03 remaining because of a power failure.
