JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - JU wide receiver JonTurner (Melbourne, Fla.) has been named to the Don Hansen's Football Gazette I-AA Mid-Major All-America Second-Team, as released on Wednesday. Turner, who also earned Pioneer Football League First-Team All-Conference honors for the second-straight year, becomes the sixth Dolphin to earn All-America honors in the short five-year history of the JU football program, joining Justin Yowell (1998), Brett Palmi (2000), Tommy Swindell (2000), Brent Aelxander (2001) and Tryone Wright (2001).

Turner set every JU single-season receiving record as a senior, including 60 receptions for 890 yards and six touchdowns. He was one of the top receivers in the PFL, ranking second in the PFL and 15th nationally with 6.0 receptions per game, while ranking fourth in the league and 23rd nationally with 89.0 yards receiving per game. Turner, who played just seasons at JU after transferring from Valdosta State, ranks first all-time with 114 career receptions alongside Brett Palmi, but is the Dolphins' career leader in yards per receptions (16.4 yards/rec.) and receiving touchdowns (13). He also ranks second all-time with 1,874 career receiving yards.

Turner made a name for himself as JU's big-play receiver, finishing his career with 16 catches for 30-or-more yards, while averaging a school-record 24.1 yards per reception in 2001. He also blocked three punts during his career, including one for a touchdown during the 2000 season, which earned him national Special Teams Player-of-the-Week honors. Turner's greatest game came at Lenoir-Rhyne when he caught five passes for a school-record 206 yards, including a 62-yard game-winning touchdown reception.
