Football set for Green and White game on Saturday

April 7, 2006

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University football team will wrap up its spring practice schedule on Saturday with the inaugural Green and White game at D.B. Milne Field.

With kickoff set for 2 p.m., the JU offense will take on the JU defense in a modified scoring system that awards big plays, first downs and third down stops.

"We're excited about the progress we've made this spring," said JU head coach Steve Gilbert. "We've improved in a number of different areas. We feel that we have tremendous depth at running back, wide receiver and in the defensive backfield."

It is the first time that the Dolphins have been able to have a full spring game in the program's history with this being the first year that Pioneer Football League schools have been able to go in full pads in the spring.

That is in conjunction with this upcoming season being the first where all PFL schools will face each other.

"The opportunity to play all seven Pioneer Football League schools is exciting for our student-athletes," Gilbert said.

The Green and White game surrounds a day full of events at D.B. Milne Field. Football alumni will be participating in a flag-football game at 11:30. The Green and White game will be followed by a plated barbecue dinner provided by Bono's at 4 p.m. Admission to the games are free, but tickets for the dinner are $15 and will be available during the contests.
