Jan. 29, 2007

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Junior forward Ashley Williams was named Atlantic Sun Conference "Player of the Week" after leading the Dolphins to two wins while also setting a new program record with nine home wins, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Williams, who earned the weekly honor for the fourth time in her career, averaged 20.5 points and 12.5 rebounds while shooting 54 percent from the floor (15-28) in victories over Stetson and Mercer last week. She has now recorded a double-double in three of her last four games.

"Ashley has been doing good job of scoring the whole year, but she really stepped up her game on the boards this past week," said head coach Jill Dunn, who earned her 50th career win on Jan. 25. "The effort she showed on the glass this past week was one of the big reasons we went 2-0 and obviously was a big factor in her receiving this award with her teammates."

Against Stetson, Williams finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds to go along with a career-high tying six steals. She shot 8-of-13 from the floor and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the charity stripe.

Against Mercer, Williams tallied back-to-back double-doubles for only the second time in her career with 18 points and 14 rebounds to go along with two blocks and two steals. The win also gave JU a program record for home wins in a season (nine).

JU (12-7, 6-3) will take its quest to the road as the Dolphins face Gardner-Webb on Thursday, Feb. 1, at 9 p.m. for its only televised contest of the season (CSS).
