Football wraps up conditioning drills on Friday

March 15, 2007

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Three days a week for the past three weeks, the Jacksonville football team has been very active before the sun comes up.

The Dolphins have been going through "mat drills" on Monday, Wednesday and Friday - starting at 5:30 a.m. The conditioning drills have been the first opportunity for the players to interact with new head coach Kerwin Bell and his coaching staff on a daily basis.

The early wake up calls are part of the disciplined effort that the new coaching staff has called upon in the drills - reminding them that the harder they work now will pay off during the season.

"The morning workouts have been good for the guys and allowed us to see who is willing to make the sacrifices and is dedicated to helping us achieve the goals we have set for the program," Bell said. "These conditioning drills are very important as we head into spring practice after spring break."

The players will take off next week for spring break before the start of spring drills on Tuesday, March 27. The Dolphins will have 13 practices and two scrimmages over four weeks - culminating with the Spring Game on April 21st at 10 a.m.

"I'm excited about getting onto the field and finally doing some coaching," Bell said. "The guys are excited about getting onto the field and I am ready to get things rolling and putting our system in to place."
