JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville football team will get a lot of time at home in 2007.
The 2007 schedule for JU features six home games on campus and the Dolphins first foray in Jacksonville Municipal Stadium for the season opener against Bethune-Cookman.
"This is a very competitive schedule for our football program," said JU director of athletics Alan Verlander. "As our football program moves forward, we want to play some of the top teams in our region and our schedule reflects that commitment."
The season opener set for Sept. 1 has JU facing in-state foe Bethune-Cookman for the first time in the annual Gateway Classic.
JU stays on the road for a rematch with Gardner-Webb on Sept. 8. The Dolphins fell to the Bulldogs a year ago at home, 49-14.
After an open week, the Dolphins begin their home schedule with UNC-Pembroke on Sept. 22 before opening Pioneer Football League play against Davidson on Sept. 29.
JU hits the road again on Oct. 6 to face PFL rival Dayton before a Homecoming showdown with Morehead State on Oct. 13.
The Dolphins then face two long road trips back-to-back against two of perennial powers of the PFL - San Diego on Oct. 20 and Drake on Oct. 27.
Jacksonville then wraps up its campaign with three straight home games. The Dolphins face PFL rival Valparaiso on Nov. 3 and wrap up conference play on Nov. 10 against Butler.
The regular season comes to an end with Senior Day on Nov. 17 against Wagner.
