JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University Athletics will be proceeding with all upcoming competitions originally scheduled this weekend with alterations to start times and event locations.
Thanks to tireless efforts to restore power and clean the campus of fallen trees and debris, Jacksonville University will be prepared to host both the women's soccer and football games. Women's soccer remains a 7 p.m. start time on Friday versus The Citadel at Southern Oak Stadium, and football will now start an hour earlier than originally planned with a noon kick-off on Saturday versus Walsh University at D.B. Milne Field.
Admission to and parking for the football home opener will be free of charge. Instead, fans are encouraged to bring canned food donations to support Feeding Northeast Florida.
Due to weather damage to Historic Swisher Gymnasium, volleyball's Dolphin Invitational was forced to relocate. The University of North Florida has made special arrangements to host the event on short notice and as a result the tournament will proceed as planned in the UNF Arena. All three of JU's matches will remain as scheduled. The Dolphins will take on Presbyterian College Friday at 6 p.m. before meeting Austin Peay University and the University of South Florida Saturday at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
Additionally, the return of power assures appropriate accommodations for all competing student-athletes and allows for the continuation of all scheduled road competitions. Men's soccer takes on UNC Charlotte Sunday at 7 p.m. in North Carolina while women's soccer heads to South Carolina the same day to play the College of Charleston at 1 p.m. Men's golf will travel to Georgia to compete in the Bridgestone Match Play on September 18 and 19.
The university has cancelled all classes through this Friday and will plan to resume normal operation on Monday, September 18. For all past and future university updates please visit www.ju.edu.
