JU to host Florida in marquee non-conference game for 2009-10
The JU men’s basketball team will host Florida in a rematch of the first round NIT matchup on Dec. 4, 2009 at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.

JU and Florida have faced each other the past five seasons, with the series resuming in 2004 at the Arena. The two teams have met the past four seasons in Gainesville and JU will travel there for the 2010-11 season.

“Florida has a tremendous program and we are looking forward to playing them at home this season,” said JU head coach Cliff Warren. “This is a great opportunity for our program and an exciting non-conference game that appeals to the Jacksonville community.”

The matchup marks the second straight season that JU has hosted a BCS conference opponent and the fourth time since the Arena opened in 2004.

“One of our goals in scheduling each season is to have a sellable non-conference home game and we are excited about Florida coming to play us,” said JU director of athletics Alan Verlander. “As a mid-major program, it is difficult to get home non-conference games. Last year, we hosted Florida State and we’ll start working on another major-conference opponent for the 2010-11 season.”

While the entire 2009-10 schedule has not been finalized, the Dolphins will travel to face Florida State, California and South Carolina this season.
