Dolphins head west to face Cal on Tuesday

The JU men’s basketball team will be making a short trip to the West Coast as they face #13 California on Tuesday night.

The Dolphins (0-1) will be coming off an eight-day layoff since their season opener at Florida State, but starting a streak of four games over the next 11 days. Cal (2-2) is coming off losses to Syracuse and Ohio State at Madison Square Garden last week.

Tipoff is set for 10:30 p.m. (EST), with the Bono’s Barbecue Pregame Show airing at 10:15 p.m. Barry Milligan will be calling all the action live with an in-game blog available through

“Cal is a very good team and we know they are going to give their best effort,” said JU head coach Cliff Warren. “We’ve used the last eight days to get better and work on some of the things that we didn’t do well in the opener.”

Ben Smith led the Dolphins with 17 points in the season opener, finishing as the only Dolphin in double figures. JU got nine points from Travis Cohn and had 26 points from its bench.

One of the problems that plagued the Dolphins at FSU was rebounding. The Seminoles held a 42-26 advantage on the glass, with JU holding a slim 13-12 advantage on its defensive end, with Florida State converting that into 12 second chance points.

The Dolphins enter the game looking to snap a 10-game losing streak against ranked teams – a streak that dates back to 1994. This marks the fifth straight year that JU has faced a nationally ranked team.
