Dolphins hit the road again to face South Carolina
After taking the red-eye back from California, the JU men’s basketball team hits the court again on Friday as they travel to face the first of two SEC foes in South Carolina.
Tipoff for Friday’s game is set for 7 p.m., with the game being televised on SportsSouth. The game will also be broadcast on the JU Sports Network, with the Bono’s Barbecue Pregame Show starting at 6:45 p.m.
Jacksonville (0-2) is looking to find its identity on offense after posting just 47 points at Cal, the fewest in the five seasons under Cliff Warren.
“We have not played the style that JU basketball is known to play in the first two games,” Warren said. “We’ve had a lot of opportunities to score, we just haven’t taken advantage of them.”
In its first two games, JU has seen just one player score in double figures in each contest. Ben Smith had 17 in the season opener against FSU while Lehmon Colbert led the Dolphins with 10 at Cal.
It’s the balance in scoring that concerns Warren.
The Dolphins have been one of the most prolific scoring teams in the Atlantic Sun Conference the past three seasons, usually having three players averaging double figures in points.
That scoring drought has hurt the Dolphins as they have been unable to get into their press, which has been effective when they have been able to get into it.
And the Dolphins defense needs work as well as their first two opponents shot well over 50 percent in each game.
