JU opens final road trip at Kennesaw State
The JU men’s basketball team starts its final road trip of the season on Thursday as the face Kennesaw State at the KSU Convocation Center.
Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m., with the game being broadcast live on 1010XL with Barry Milligan calling the play-by-play. Fans can also tune into the game on ASun.TV and follow a live blog on JUDolphins.com.
Jacksonville (15-10, 11-5 A-Sun) is coming off two straight wins at home, capping the weekend with a 69-54 win over Stetson in which Ayron Hardy led the Dolphins with 19 points.
The Dolphins were able to avoid the pitfalls last week that saw a five-way tie turn into a three-way tie atop the Atlantic Sun Conference standings with Belmont and Campbell entering the final two weeks of the regular season.
“Kennesaw State is playing well of late and is always tough at home,” said JU head coach Cliff Warren. “Anytime you go on the road in the league it’s tough.”
The Dolphins last outing was the epitome of team effort. With Ben Smith and Lehmon Colbert combining for 13 points, JU got Hardy’s second-best scoring night of the season and a career-high 13 points from Tevin Galvin.
The JU bench scored 30 points in the game – the second highest total this season.
Aiding JU’s effort was a total domination of Stetson on the glass. JU held a 16-rebound advantage and had 12 second chance points.
It also helps to have the lead for most of the game. JU fell behind in the opening minute, but once they gained the lead, they never relinquished it.
With two weeks to go in the season, there are six teams within two games of first place in the A-Sun standings. ETSU and Lipscomb sit just a game back behind the three-way tie and Mercer is two games back in sixth.
