JU to face Texas Tech on Saturday at 3 p.m. EST
The JU men’s basketball team will be making its second trip west this week for its NIT second round matchup against Texas Tech on Saturday at 3 p.m. EST

The game will not be televised, but fans can catch the JU Sports Network broadcast with Barry Milligan and Artis Gilmore, with the Bono’s Barbecue Pregame Show airing at 2:45 p.m.

“We’re looking forward to the challenge of playing a good Texas Tech team,” said JU head coach Cliff Warren. “While the win on Tuesday was nice, we can’t rest on that. We have to focus all of our attention on Texas Tech.”

JU (20-11) exorcised some demons with the upset win over Arizona State, snapping a 41-game losing streak to BCS schools that dated back to 1994 and picked up the school’s first postseason win since 1974.

Now, the Dolphins are looking to extend some history.

JU has never won a game in a postseason and not advanced to the Final Four of that event. The Dolphins have won in the postseason just three times previously (1970 NCAA, 1972 NIT and 1974 NIT) and played in the semifinals of each event.

For Ben Smith, Tuesday’s game added just another page to his legacy at JU.

The 3-pointer at the buzzer was the second game-winning shot of his career and capped a night where he moved past Ronnie Murphy for second on the all-time scoring list at JU. He did not come out of the game, being the first Dolphin in six years to play every minute of a game.

Joining Smith in the legacy making was senior forward Lehmon Colbert, who picked up his fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
